Himalayan Ecological Trekking

Tsum Valley Trekking

Tibet maybe politically part of China, but the richness of Tibetan culture continues undisturbed in this sacred valley of Tsum, Nepal. Nestled between the grandeur of the Himalayas, people continue to live as they have always done for hundreds of years. The Tsum Valley is a timeless area, unknown to the majority of people, whos name in the Tibetan language translates to that which refers to that which is *separated*. There are no accessible roads that lead to the area so the only way of entrance is via: the *pathways* of the river that cuts through the heart of the Tsum Valley, the Syar river bisects the valley allowing passage through a narrow gorge. Trade connection is still highly connected with Tibet. Here the people practice Tibetan Buddhism. Local legend believe that Melarepa, who entered into this valley as pigeon who meditated in the different caves, and which became as holy points as monasteries which has been the case for centuries, whereby 14 Buddhist monasteries are situated alongside the valley and mountain foothills together with just 6 schools that offer only a primary level of education, each family here follow the tradition of allowing only their second son/daughter to be entered into a monastic lifestyle who have to remain celebrate. The communities are very devout in the non - sacrifice of animals and only consume meat which has died of natural causes, as a result the animal kingdom live in perfect harmony with the local population. transformed himself into a pigeon after entering the valley and after meditating in a cave for a period of time created an energy field that transformed the minds of the community and so by evoked an attitude of non-violence. Life has always been hard for the Tibetan community having to survive in such an environment, most children do not go to school as the demands of the families require that they help out with farming duties and the up keep of the home which reflects the poverty levels of these people. Farmland is scarce in this area but the valley has been able to maintain food supplies since the arrival of the people from as far back as the 10th.century. People in this valley celebrate the festivals : Tibetan Lhosar and Dajong. Dajong is the festival which is valid only in this valley in Nepal. This festival starts with great preparation of feasting & gathering together, horse racing. Festival starts by worshiping in the Pironphuk Monastery, where Melarepa entered into this cave transforming his person to become a pidgeon and then subsequently went into  meditation in the 10th Century, later a puja programme in the Rachen Monastery together with singing and dancing. Dajong is celebrated as acknowledgement to God for a good harvesting aa well as for the season & climate in the valley.

A journey to this region accounts for a minimum of 15 days trekking; the area has begun development whereby converted homes are
now being utilized for accommodation and restaurant facilities. The arrival of visitors will immensely benefit the area economically.
The presence of trekkers in the valley will enhance the local community who do not feel in anyway intimidated by such visitations as
they are very peaceful in nature who live in a dedicated manner towards their master the Dali Lama.
For those who choose to participate in this trekking program will subsequently reflect on an experience of a lifetime, stepping into a timeless zone of richness in regards to Tibetan culture and its surrounding beauty.
The area is open for programs for most of the year, although the monsoon season{June-early September} can occasionally discourage some
people but then again each season gives a different dimension to this sacred valley.

Saturday, 09 April 2011
HET has just launched a new program in the remote area behind the Himalaya named Tsum Valley, which is a fragile land of heaven of Buddhist culture and deep beauty & silence of nature.   No scarify of living beings, and countless stupas/Chorten , peace and happy people, landscapes and Charming Himalayas of Ganesh Himala are the major attraction of this valley. Probably this is only the valley where any one smells of untouched nature.
